杜武勋教授认为“整体观念”“辩证论治”是中医理论特色，临床只有“病证结合”“方证相应”“药证相符”“用量恰当”“药时到位”，才能体现出中医学复方整体疗效。此为指导，结合现代科学技术，形成稳定的“病证结合，方、证、量、时、效的系统-系统整体动态循证研究模式”。综合运用生物色谱技术、系统生物学、网络药理学、药代-药效动力学等方法，开展中医心病证候规范、复方中药药效物质基础及作用机制研究，取得了多项国家及天津市自然科学基金项目，发表论文百余篇，代表性论文如下：
